Wiki Fever? What is up with all your Wikis?
OK, so there are a couple or four Wiki installations in the ChaliceMedia world. Why so many?
There are two primary reasons, one is technology testing and the other is security. In addition to those concerns there are also things like performance, content amalgamation and diversity, synergies and variances. People interested in the technical aspects of what we do may not necessarily be interested in the creative content, and vice versal.
We are also working prototypes for large scale projects, to contain all relative data within the confines of the project, while allowing external connections to other projects. For the future, an assortment of Wiki installations will also facilitate multiple language versions of our content.
Current Wiki Evironments:
- chalicetech.com - this site is entirely available to the public and therefore uses a MediaWiki engine for user familiarity.
- flyoverwar.info - BackStage Pass - this is prototype WikkaWiki installation modified to fit thematically with the core website for The Flyover War project. WikkaWiki was chosen for this site because only a portion of the site is available to the general public and because of the simlpicity of making the thematic changes.
- RoyoRabbit.com - experimtation with WikiSpaces (all of the site must be public, so we're still thinking on this one.
- Our DuckieMentation™ site. With the exception of a universal ChaliceMedia Glossary, the content of this site is not available to the public. (DuckieMentation? ok that's yet another FAQ and a long story.)
In addition, I'm (me, Ron) using a couple of different tools for the concept of personal Wikis. The first is an iPad, iPhone app called Trunk Notes from AppsOntheMove, the other is an open source desktop Wiki called -- and I LOVE this name -- WikidPad.
There is, of course, a downside to all of this. There is no current standard for Wiki syntax, so content I move between Wiki's must be translated.
But there is a thing that can minimize the headaches from this problem. It's called PLANNING.
