Isn't just getting the words on paper enough?
Writing in todays rapidly changing world is wrought with constant new challenges. Trying to anticipate the future is a daunting, if not impossible, task. This workshop takes you on a tour of four prototype fiction projects designed to anticipate and test some ideas about what the near-term future might look like.
Totem Poles and Rabbit Holes describe two of the basic concepts used in this idea of future state story design. Totem Poles are places to hang goodies that can expand your reader's experience beyond the words on a page (whether in a printed book, an eBook, or some hybrid of the two.) Rabbit Holes are places to plant teasers and enticers to draw your reader into your words-on-page from places they might run across in their day-to-day activities. The best news is that you can begin playing in the future for free--- NOW.
